Maybe first tell us something about you, your name, where you’re from, what you’re doing for life, etc.

My name is Joshua unkel, I’m 22 years old and from Düsseldorf, Germany. I started photography about 5 years ago. It all began when I took a canon powershot from my mother to a skatesession with my friends. My friends were so excited about the photos that i decided to read the topic of photography. Day after day, I watched tutorials, read books and tried to teach myself photography and all its facets.

how would you best describe your photography style?

My first own camera was a canon 7D which I really loved. Over time, I’ve replaced this for a Canon EOS 1D Mark III. I love the 1D mark III. The handling, the battery life, the shuttersound. Thats why i still use the 1D.
But I do not really have much equipment. For almost two years, I only shoot with the 1D and a 35/2 or 50/1.8.

How’d you get into photography? Are you formally taught or self-taught?

Do you have a favorite image or experience? If so, can you tell us the backstory?

It would be difficult for me to decide on a favorite photo. On the one hand there is a photo from my „Anonymface“ project, on the other hand the photo of Martin, a good friend in a deserted factory in front of a graffiti with red eyes.. or so many othe

Tell me about a place you would love to travel to. On this trip, you only get to take one lens with you ~  which would it be and why?

..I always wanted to travel to Iceland in my life. I love this endless landscape, the huge cliffs on the sea and the beauty of nature. Or to the exact opposite, to New York City. The city that never sleeps with the most diverse people in the world.
I would not change my gear on both trips. But if I could take only a lens, it would be the 35/2. I dont have a specific goal for my photography, it is enough for me to see how people enjoy my photos and like to look at them.

Do you have any specific goals for your photography?

Of course, I would be happy to see my photos printed in magazines or in an exhibition.
But It would be a big dream to quit my main job and work as a photographer. But until then a lot of time will pass. I know that I’m still young and have to do one after the other before I take such a big step.

Finally, I would like to thank some people who have supported me so far on my way. Of course, my mother’s on top priority. All the financial and emotional support helped me a lot. Also my friends, especially the skaterdudes from Ratingen. And finally, I would like to thank my girlfriend, who has been with me for almost a year.

And a big thank goes also to the people of ThePerspectve. A feature on your side is really a big thing for me!
